What difference do we make?

Lakeshore Drive United Church lives out God's mission in many areas.  We take Luke 4.18-19 as our guide:

'The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour.'

Right in our own church the elders undertake pastoral care and visiting along with the minister.

We also support the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada.  It is the operating resource for education, local and overseas mission, theological institutions, program resources, church house staff, conference staff, world relief.

Our local efforts include:

  • the snowsuit fund
  • South Dundas Food Bank, Morrisburg, ON
  • House of Lazarus, Mountain, ON
  • Naomi's Resource Centre, Winchester, ON
  • Christmas exchange
  • Samaritain's Purse shoebox
  • Canadian Food Grains Bank
  • helping support a Syrian Refugee Family

Every Thursday evening AA and Al-Anon meet in Allan Hall.

We have parishioners who are active in the Stephen Lewis Foundation's Amazing Grannies, Community Living, Lions, hospital auxiliary, and fraternal organizations.

In the last year we have provided cereal/cracker packages for children in need at the local elementary school.  We sponsored an information night for ovarian cancer.

We look for new opportunities and challenges to serve.
